Pea Soup with Turkey Bacon - Instant Pot

Ingredients (for a 6-qt Instant Pot)
3 oz     Turkey bacon (or a few drops of liquid smoke)
1
Large white onion (or 10 oz bag of frozen chopped onions)
2 tbsp  
Minced garlic
4 cups Low salt chicken broth
2 cups Water
1 lb 
Dried, split peas
1/2 tbsp  Salt
1/2 tbsp  Paprika
1/4 tbsp  Pepper
1/4 tsp 
Chili powder


  1. Set Instant Pot to "Saute"
  2. Add a little oil, saute bacon. When cooked, remove and dice it, and then set aside when cooked
  3. Saute onions until translucent (add garlic about halfway)
  4. Add broth, water, peas, bacon, and spices to the onions
  5. Set pressure cooker to "Manual" (High Pressure) for 15 minutes, turn off heat and wait for Natural Release.
  6. Use an immersion blender to mix
  7. Once cooled enough, taste to see if it needs more spices/salt

For a vegetarian version, liquid smoke and vegetable stock can be used instead of turkey bacon and chicken stock.
